Creator's Notes: This character are based on the Manga and would exist in the Manga and the Second Anime.
Name: Roberta Sanders
Age: 14-years-old
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Birthday: 3rd June, 1901
Height: 1.55m
Nationality: Amestrian
Family:
Amelia Sanders (Mother. Amestrian. Deceased.)
Philip Sanders (Father. Née 'Mathews'. Amestrian. Deceased.)
Appearance:
Roberta has eyes of vivid green, and straight, light blonde, mid-back hair featuring a hime-cut fringe (minus the side-locks) that ends just above her eyebrows. Her hair is pulled into a low ponytail, secured with a black hair bobble. She wears oversized, circular, thin-frame glasses.
She has fair skin and a body normal for her age.
Roberta's main outfit consists of a long-sleeved white dress shirt and a midnight blue tie with a grey V-neck waistcoat buttoned up over them.
The shirt is neatly tucked into a pair of grey dress shorts (matching the waistcoat) which reach to just above Roberta's mid-thighs. They have a cease going down the centre of the front of each leg, along with roll-up hems. They are held in place with a brown leather belt. On her feet, she has white socks that go to halfway up her shins with midnight blue baseball boots.
Over this attire, Roberta wears a midnight blue, wool-blend coat that falls to her ankles. The garment has a hood and is tailored to the girl's frame, though fans out slightly from the waist down and lacks a spilt or tail. It is always unbuttoned lest the situation calls for it to be fastened up, such as when in Briggs or the rain.
Roberta has a Transmutation Circle on her right palm. Contained in one pocket of her shorts is a wallet. In the other pocket she has three photos: the first is of herself and her childhood friend, Robert Marley, aged nine; the second of herself and her alchemy teacher smiling in front of the orphanage; and the last of herself, her alchemy teacher's family, and Robert (who had been specially invited by Mary), celebrating their first Christmas together.
Personality:
Roberta speaks in a formal, sophisticated and calm manner. When she is infuriated, she will shout, but still in a non-colloquial way. She does not shout very often, as she hardly loses her temper.
In addiction, Roberta is mature, strong-willed and courageous, but has an intense fear of fire and guns. Hence, she keeps her distance from naked flames and those with wielding the offending weapon.
The girl's alchemy teacher harbours a strong hatred of the Ishval Civil War, which rubbed off on her.
She often gets jealous of other families, due to living most of her life in an orphanage.
She greatly enjoys reading.
One final aspect to Roberta is she cannot understand why someone would want to become a State Alchemist, as then everyone would know whom he or she was. She knows there are other ways of getting information that are exclusive to State Alchemists, such as stealing and questioning.
Life Story: When Amelia Sanders married Philip Matthews in 1897, it was a rather usual affair. The wedding was normal enough: guests, a cake, and self-made vows. However, the usual aspect arose when it was time for the filling in of the marriage papers. It was Philip, not Amelia, who changed his second name.
It was traditional and always expected that it was the woman who changed their surname, not the man. Philip, however, felt this was sexist, and wished to be different. It took a while for their friends to accept and get used to it.
He moved in with Amelia after their honeymoon.
Four happy years later, Amelia fell pregnant with and give birth to the Sanders' only child: Roberta.
When she was just two-years-old, Roberta and her parents were involved in a car accident. Philip was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Fortunately, Amelia, severely injured, and Roberta, battered and bruised with a head injury, were taken to hospital and stabilised. Both were unconscious.
After two weeks of little to no recovery, the doctors and Amelia had to accept that her life would fade away soon. Just a few days later, the woman kissed her beloved daughter goodbye, her last words to her being, "I won't be completely gone, sweetheart, either. I'll just be joining your father, and we will both watch over you." She then lost consciousness, and twenty minutes later, Amelia Sanders was dead.
Amelia was buried next to her husband, giving her friends even more grief, as they had been hoping that Philip dying would be the worst of the situation.
Roberta recovered a month later, but due her head injury, she did not fully remember what had occurred during and after the accident and her eyesight had deteriorated, causing her to need glasses. All she remembered was that her parents were gone and that she had in a hospital, as she was involved in something that had happened to "make Mummy and Daddy leave". She was then placed in a little-known orphanage in her birthplace of Central City.
When she was seven, the girl was informed of how she became an orphan. She was told of the tragic accident that took their lives and that her mother had almost made it, though died two weeks later. However, as the orphanage owners did not know them, Roberta never learnt their names.
After finding and reading a book about it, Roberta become interested in alchemy. She began training in alchemy when she was six, with a kind, then 22-year-old sensei, Mary Thompson, whom she met when the staff of her orphanage took the younger children on a day-trip to Dublith. Roberta was very affectionate to Mary, leading to the woman treating her like her daughter. After finding out what had happened to them, her relationship with her alchemy teacher aided the child in accepting that her parents were gone, and that she had to get on with life without them.
Roberta had some good friends, but was closest to a boy her age called Robert Marley, whom she first become friends with due to their similar names. They shared everything: interests, secrets, such as how they become orphan and others. The one secret she did not share with him was her practice of alchemy, as she wanted to keep her promise to the head of the orphanage.
Throughout her childhood, by Mary's tutorship and many books, she learnt about various subjects she thought alchemists were required to know, as at that time, she did not realise that most just focus on one area. These were: chimeras, Human Transmutation (Mary had to help her greatly in understand it and she would never attempt it) and, finally, the Philosopher's Stone (again with her sensei's tutorship). Mary also taught her Maths, Science (in particular, Biology), History, Social Sciences, and how to have neat handwriting (like herself).
Roberta also studied Ettiquette on her own, which is the reason for her trademark formal manner and speech.
When the two were seven, Roberta and Robert become friends with a recently arrived, rebellious, fifteen-year-old boy, Craig West. Craig was a smoker, despite his young age, and had to do this in secret. He called himself a 'master thief' due to his time on the streets after running away from home. He wanted to retire, but not without, as he put it, "something big to go out on". This was succeeding in breaking into Central Library to look at the classified documents.
Craig used the children's curious nature is his advantage, showing the things he had previously stolen, and telling them they could be great thieves like him if they helped him. He gave them each a nickname, "Specs" for Roberta and "Tyke" for Robert.
One night, when she was eight and Craig sixteen, Craig led only the young girl to Central Library. Robert did not want come, as he loved his sleep and was worried it would be a step too far.
After a while of picking the most difficult window lock he ever had, Craig managed to break in the library.
He accessed the documents and passed them to Roberta after he was done. Roberta, though knowing what they were doing was wrong, liked learning about the things the Military kept hidden away. One of the most interesting and shocking was about an Ishvalan man named Scar, who just recently had killed a doctor couple with the second name 'Rockbell' in Ishval and was now on the run. Despite this, Craig was disappointed, and for the whole trip back to the orphanage, he complained that it was a waste of time and he still wanted "something bigger".
However, the duo had been seen returning into the orphanage. Though Craig tried to take the blame, both of them had to clean the dishes for a week (and injure some nagging from Robert).
Craig left the orphanage two years later, still on the hunt for that "big finish".
Robert Marley was adopted when Roberta was ten, leaving her lonely, and began her jealousy of happy families.
Half a year later, mainly due to loneliness, Roberta told her teacher she was leaving the orphanage to explore the world, and track down and reunite with Robert (and perhaps Craig too).
Concerned for the girl's safety, Mary decided to accompany the young alchemist.
Roberta, now fourteen, and Mary, now thirty-one, are still travelling. Mary's family hope they are safe, and miss them.
During their travels, Roberta and Mary have learnt of various things from the people they have met. In East City, they learnt of the famous Elric Brothers, in Reole, they learnt of the raise and fall of the Church of Letoism (and the Elrics involvement). In Dublith, they learnt that chimera wandered the streets and how to they used to gather in a bar called "The Devil's Nest". In Xing they learned, "The Philosopher from the West" tale. As they travelled, they learned the Elric Brothers were quite famous.
Roberta also learnt a few things; she knew she should not know, as they were things she had overheard. These were - Father and his homunculi (including Father's plans for the so-called "The Promised Day", which worries her greatly) and that Fuhrer King Bradley and his son were Homunculi. She was luckily unnoticed.
However, they have yet to find him or Craig, Mary and Roberta have managed to find some small, but hopeful clues to where Robert could be.
During a trip through Central City early on in their search, Roberta, taking a walk on her own as Mary was writing another letter, met two girls called Roz and Arianna. They had a small chat, telling each they were on a journey, though did not reveal to each other what their journeys concerned (Arianna also wore a cloak the whole time and did not speak much). Roberta would quite like to run into them again, as she believes, "The more friends I acquire, the merrier I shall become, and this provide me with motivation."
Abilities and Skills: Roberta uses combat alchemy mostly, and she has nearly perfected it, but it needs just a little more to achieve that perfection.
By activating the Transmutation Circle on her palm and transferring the energy to other objects, Roberta can create weapons and objects. She uses almost any material she can get her hands on, but mostly metal or wood.
She is an average physical fighter, though possesses excellent agility and mostly fights long-range.
She is no good at most physical talents, such as playing an instrument, cooking, or drawing, rather, her strengths and talents lie in the fields of intelligence, knowledge and writing.
Extra: Roberta is a closest Lesbian. Not even her teacher knows. She is in love with Paninya, whom she fist saw while she and her teacher were passing through Rush Valley one time, but Paninya did not notice her. However, Roberta denies her feelings.
